Gluten Free Greats
A group of influencers in the gluten free community joined Tuesday, Nov. 17, to become acquainted and decide how we could make a greater impact in our communities. A variety of issues were put on the table, including:
- Making life easier for kids with Celiac Disease or a Gluten Intolerance
- Creating availability of GF foods for economically challenged families
- Improving the quality and availability of GF food at hospitals
- Helping colleges buy into providing great options for GF students
- Finding great doctors who “get it” and others who want to and taking our $ away from the others who don’t want to become better able to serve us
- Creating a support group model that is positive, uplifting and fun
One of the exciting outcomes was a focus on getting gluten free food into food banks and developing a protocol by which others can do the same. Early in December we will hold a press conference in Loveland, at House of Neighborly Service, to launch their gluten free options for families in need. We would like you to join us and bring your favorite gluten free food to share with families in need. My goal is to have 100 people there donating something gluten free and having all of the mainstream Denver and Northern Colorado media there along with National Media to tell the story. Before, during and after I’d love to have bloggers tell the story about the vast need and the generosity of the gluten free community. The date is yet to be determined but will be early December.
One of my clients, Sandwich Petals, the Original Gluten Free Flatbread, will be kicking off their corporate giving program and challenging other gluten free manufacturers to do the same.
If you’d like to help in this effort in any way, please let us know. If this is an activity you’d like to be a part of that day, if your schedule allows, give us a heads up and we’ll keep you posted.
Our next gathering of the Gluten Free Greats will be Saturday, January 30, 2010. We’re renaming the group, the Gluten Free Leadership SummitTM. It’s the 5th Saturday in January so most people won’t have a standing commitment. It will be held in Denver. We would love to have you join us. You don’t have to be from Colorado to join in. You do have to be willing to share ideas, resources and solutions to some of the issues needing to be addressed to make the world better for people with a gluten intolerance and Celiac Disease. This will be a work session. If you’d like to stay abreast of the group’s progress, leave your email address below.
